Excerpt from:

Longshore Drift
(Jardine Press 2005)

Out there, the sea: a sheet
Of tin-foil, shaken out,

A boiling, pewter-grey,
Copper-tinged alloy;

A growl, a snarl, a frown.
It darkens like a stain,

White-veined, white fretted, brown
And snagged with angry light;

It glitters in the bright
Spilt metal of the sun.
